A Queer History of London - The LGBTQ+ Walking Tour
Sunday, May 19, 2024
Clermont Hotel Charing Cross The Strand London WC2N 5HX
Today the LGBTQ+ community’s presence can be seen across every borough and street in London. Many inequalities still exist, but the massive advances over the past 50 years have meant that most (but not all) LGBTQ+ people can now live openly and freely wherever they choose across our diverse city.
Hear stories of drag queens in the 1700’s, the 1920’s secret gay soirées and the infamous history of Soho, one of the world’s best loved queer neighbourhoods.
Join us to celebrate the iconic people and places that made this possible, and the ones who still lead the fight today, as we take pride in a community which has been through so much, from repression and persecution to violence and discrimination, yet continues to strive towards bringing equality and inclusivity to all.
The tour begins in front of The Clermont Hotel, Charing Cross, Strand, WC2N 5HX.
