Research Assistant in PPN

Job Description

We are seeking applications for a Research Assistant in Smart Agriculture to support the management of UKRI funded projects. The role is part of one interdisciplinary projects “PPNMix” funded by InnovateUK. We have developed an early-stage solution by building a CNN-based PPN detection model with a software prototype to recognise important PPN genera from filtered, contaminant-free PPN sample. We would like to continue this project by combining knowledge-guided training strategies with AI models to improve the robustness and efficiency of PPN identification for samples mixed with multiple PPN species and contaminants. This project will provide a practical solution for identifying PPN species in a complex background by developing a robust AI-based automatic image recognition service. You will be working with Dr Po Yang at the Sheffield Pervasive Computing (PC) Group. The post includes collaboration opportunities with both UK industrial partners (Velcourt, Mutus-tech) and Harper Adams University.

You will help us to develop these techniques and assist project management and dissemination. This will involve close collaboration with our partners in industry. You will develop your knowledge of smart and sustainable agriculture. You can hone your communication skills by contributing to research publications and running workshops and events to build a network of researchers and practitioners. You will hold a Master’s degree in a relevant subject, ideally with experiences on managing UKRI projects. Some knowledge of mobile intelligence and pervasive computing would be highly desirable.
