Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence and Applications of AI

Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Sheffield.
We have a number of research groups with strong AI interests, including:
- Machine Learning (lead by Prof Eleni Vasilaki),
- Speech and Hearing (lead by Prof Roger Moore),
- Natural Language Processing (lead by Prof Nikos Aletras), and
- Visual Computing (lead by Prof Jungong Han)

We are seeking a candidate with an outstanding record of scholarship in any of these areas. You will have a background in research on and around AI, and experience of interdisciplinary collaboration, especially with STEM disciplines. You will join the group(s) most closely related to your research interests in the School of Computer Science. There is also the opportunity to for collaborate with The Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI), which is a strategic initiative supported by a £3.64m investment, dedicated to the transformation and acceleration of research, innovation, and teaching on and with AI, and further collaboration with the University Centres of Excellence in Research. To drive our research agenda in AI forward, we are now seeking to appoint a Lecturer to join the existing academics working in this space across the School.

You will hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related area, and you will be able to conduct research to the highest standards. You will secure research funding, publish in high-impact journals, supervise research students, and manage research projects. As a teacher, you will play a key role in maintaining our reputation for high-quality teaching by designing, delivering, and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate-level courses in research-lead as well as core topics in computer science. We seek candidates who will be able to make a distinctive individual contribution to our research portfolio within any of the mentioned research areas, collaborating with your research group and more widely.

The appointment will be supported with a generous start-up package including funds for equipment/travel and a PhD studentship (covering UK tuition fee and stipend for 3.5 years). We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and the University.

This role is supported by AI Futures Grants, a UK Government scheme designed to help the next generation of AI leaders meet the costs of relocating to the UK. AI Futures Grants provide financial support to reimburse relocation costs such as visa fees, the immigration health surcharge and travel/subsistence expenses. Successful candidates for this role may be able to get up to £10,000 to meet relocation costs, subject to terms and conditions, in addition to University of Sheffield relocation support.
